Accra, Ghana – June 6, 2025 — Veteran Ghanaian rapper Emmanuel Kofi Botwe, widely known as Kwaw Kese, has publicly criticized the Ghana Police Service for what he describes as an unlawful and humiliating stop-and-search incident that took place along Spintex Road in Accra.
The incident occurred on Thursday, June 5, 2025, and has since generated significant public discussion after the artist shared a video detailing his experience on his official Instagram page.
In the video, a visibly upset Kwaw Kese recounted how police officers pulled him over while he was driving his luxury vehicle and conducted a thorough search that lasted approximately 30 minutes. He alleged that the officers suspected him of carrying illegal substances and attempted to fabricate a case against him.
“Ghana Police, you stopped me on Spintex Road for about 30 minutes. You searched me by the roadside and went through my car looking for hard substances to create a false case against me,” the rapper stated.

Kwaw Kese expressed deep frustration over the ordeal, questioning the reasoning behind the officers’ actions. He believes that the search was motivated by a desire to wrongfully implicate him in criminal activity.
“Why would I carry illegal substances and risk being disgraced and arrested in public? What kind of nonsense is that? You just saw me and decided to search for something unlawful. Your evil schemes have failed,” he said.
He also condemned the public spectacle of the search, noting that while some officers appeared to admire him, they simultaneously subjected him to public embarrassment by rummaging through his belongings on the roadside.
“How can the Ghana Police stop and search me in full view of passersby? You were praising me while simultaneously going through my clothes in public.”
Kwaw Kese’s comments have reignited discussions about police professionalism, profiling, and the abuse of authority in Ghana. He is no stranger to legal battles with law enforcement; in December 2014, he was arrested in Kumasi for publicly smoking a substance believed to be marijuana.
He was tried in April 2015 and sentenced to one day in prison along with a GH¢1,200 fine by High Court Judge William Boampong. Before the sentencing, he spent over a month in remand at the Kumasi Central Prison and was later granted bail on December 30, 2014.
Kwaw Kese has always maintained his innocence and recently declared his intention to seek $1 million in compensation from the Ghana Police Service for the 2014 arrest, citing damages to his reputation and career.
As of now, the Ghana Police Service has not issued an official response to the latest allegations.
