24-Hour Economy Policy to Launch on July 2; Speaker Bagbin Receives First Copy

The government’s highly anticipated 24-Hour Economy Policy will be officially launched on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, by President John Dramani Mahama. The policy focuses on accelerating export development and enhancing productivity across key sectors of the economy.

Ahead of the launch, the Technical Committee responsible for the policy’s rollout presented the official policy document to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

Policy Pillars and Objectives

Leading the delegation, Augustus Obuadum Tannoh outlined the core framework of the policy, which is built around three main themes:

1. Production Transformation
2. Supply Chain and Market Efficiency
3. Human Capital Development

These themes are further supported by eight sub-programs, each targeting a specific area of the economy:

– Grow24 – Agriculture
– Make24 – Manufacturing
– Connect24 – Supply Chain Optimization
– Aspire24 – Mindset Change and Productivity Reform
– Serve24 – Public Sector Service Improvement
– Trade24 – Export Development
– Care24 – Healthcare Access and Delivery
– Secure24 – Public Safety and Security Around the Clock

Mr. Tannoh emphasized that the goal of the policy is to reset Ghana’s approach to work, boost national productivity, and position the country for sustainable economic growth. “Aspire24 is particularly aimed at reshaping the Ghanaian attitude toward productivity retraining both the workforce and the bureaucracy with a renewed spirit of efficiency,” he said.

He also highlighted the importance of promoting Ghana’s cultural identity as part of the broader transformation agenda. “The ‘Show Ghana’ component reflects our rich cultural heritage, from literature and food to dance and legacy.”

A Bipartisan National Agenda

Receiving the policy document, Speaker Bagbin praised the initiative, describing it as a transformational policy that aligns with the aspirations of the Ghanaian people. He emphasized the need for bipartisan support to ensure its success.

“We need everyone on board. If we start categorizing this policy along partisan, religious, or ethnic lines, we lose focus. This must be a national agenda,” the Speaker stated.

He also called for parliamentary debate and approval following the launch to provide the policy with legislative backing and to align all arms of government behind its implementation.

Speaker Bagbin commended the Mahama-led administration for moving beyond campaign rhetoric to actual policy delivery. “I am excited that the 24-Hour Economy has transitioned from promise to implementation,” he noted.

A New Economic Model

The 24-Hour Economy Policy, advocated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government under President Mahama, seeks to transform Ghana’s economy by encouraging continuous operations in key sectors through a three-shift system. The initiative is expected to stimulate economic activity, create jobs, and unlock greater productivity in industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics.
