Six Arrested in Kumasi for Targeting Bank Customers Five Nigerians, One Ghanaian

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested six individuals five Nigerian nationals and one Ghanaian for their alleged involvement in a series of robberies targeting bank customers across Kumasi.

According to the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, the suspects trailed victims who had withdrawn large sums of money from financial institutions. The suspects then broke into the victims’ vehicles and stole the cash. These criminal activities had been ongoing for the past month.

The breakthrough in the case was made possible through police intelligence and surveillance footage from the Intelligence Video Surveillance (IVS) system at the Police Emergency Command Centre. The suspects were tracked using two vehicles: a gold-coloured Toyota Highlander with registration number GT 2471-14 and a black Toyota Highlander with registration number GX 7124-12. Both vehicles were using fake license plates.

On Thursday, June 19, 2025, at around 10 a.m., the police arrested three more suspects:

  • Russell Ekenze, 29, a taxi driver

  • Francis Friday, 49

  • Linus Agwazie, 51, a trader

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being part of a wider criminal syndicate responsible for multiple thefts in locations including Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Mayanka, Asokwa, Kumasi Central Mosque, ShopRite, and the Georgia Hotel area.

They also identified other members of the syndicate: Cosmas Maduabuchukwu, Ezuchukwu, C.J., DD, and Lele. According to police reports, Cosmas Maduabuchukwu sustained gunshot wounds during an attempted arrest but managed to escape.

All six arrested suspects are currently in custody, and the two vehicles used in their operations have been impounded. A manhunt is ongoing to apprehend Maduabuchukwu and the other fugitives.

Preliminary investigations indicate that all syndicate members, except one identified as “DD,” are Nigerian nationals. The suspects have since been arraigned before court and remanded into custody.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has assured the public of its unwavering commitment to ensuring public safety and protecting property in the region.
