“I’m Not in Music for Passion – I’m Hungry for It” – Gyakie

Ghanaian songstress Gyakie has candidly revealed the driving force behind her music career, emphasizing that it stems not just from passion, but from an unrelenting hunger for success and impact.

In an exclusive interview on Luv FM’s DriveTime with Melvin Da Enigma, the “Something” hitmaker declared:

“My music career is not by passion. I’m hungry for it! With passion, you could be blown off. Anything can stop you. I’m not just passionate about music – I’m hungry and striving to push through.”

Despite being the daughter of legendary Highlife musician Nana Acheampong, Gyakie says her path has been anything but easy.

“I was really a hustler. Though Nana Acheampong is my father, he taught me to do it myself.”

This independent spirit and desire to carve her own path have shaped the resilient artist she is today.

Gyakie also shared that her upcoming album, titled ‘After Midnight’, is complete and deeply personal. While love is a core theme, she clarified that the project explores love in its many forms not just the romantic kind.

“I’m actually giving out love because I love to see people happy. I’ve experienced the positive aspects of love, and those are the things I want to share.”

Her journey hasn’t been without challenges. Gyakie admitted to moments of self-doubt during the recording process:

“I felt I didn’t do much, but after the song came out, my fans made me realise it was the best. Sometimes I want to give up, and then I get a DM saying, ‘I love your music’ and that’s my wake-up call. I don’t joke with my fans. They can make or unmake you.”

She also touched on the mental toll of online life, offering a cautionary reflection:

“That’s where the demons are hovering now. People have made their home on the internet. If you want to give up in life, go and live there. I regulate my life outside the internet that’s how I’ve been able to stay true to myself.”

With her latest single “Sankofa” already resonating with audiences and giving fans a taste of After Midnight, Gyakie is doing more than just releasing music she’s baring her soul. If hunger truly fuels her artistry, then Gyakie’s future in music is nothing
