President John Dramani Mahama has appointed prominent Ghanaian media personality and journalist Bridget Otoo as a Presidential Staffer at the Office of Government Communications.
The official announcement, made on Friday, June 27, 2025, ends months of public speculation surrounding her potential appointment, especially given her vocal support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President Mahama during the 2024 election campaign.
A Bold Voice Joins Government
Bridget Otoo is widely recognised for her fearless journalism and strong advocacy on national issues. Her unapologetic stance on matters of governance and development has earned her a large following and made her a trending topic on social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), following news of her appointment.
A Personal Reflection
In a heartfelt Facebook post on Friday, Otoo expressed gratitude for the appointment and reflected on her journey. She recalled
January 7, 2025, the day of President Mahama’s swearing-in, which she experienced from a hospital bed due to an unexpected medical complication.
“Despite the health setback, I remained hopeful and committed,” she wrote. “This appointment to serve at the Seat of Government as a ‘Presidential Staffer, Government Communications’, although earned on my part through grit, dedication, and hard work, is still an incredible privilege that I intend to prove myself worthy of.”
She pledged to serve with integrity, hard work, and commitment, emphasizing her readiness to contribute meaningfully to the government’s communication strategies.
Gratitude and Transition

Bridget extended her appreciation to President Mahama, First Lady Lordina Mahama, Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Xoese Dogbe, Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Fosu, and the NDC grassroots, thanking them for their support throughout her career journey.
Prior to her appointment, Bridget resigned from her role as a news anchor at Metro TV in May 2025, concluding a three-year tenure with the station. She joined Metro TV in 2021 after a brief hiatus from the media industry following her departure from Media General in 2017.
Her boldness, energy, and dedication are expected to serve her well in her new role, where she will be instrumental in shaping and delivering government communications.
