Big Akwes Apologizes to Cina Soul Over Disturbing On-Air Comments

Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Big Akwes has publicly apologized to singer Cina Soul after making disturbing remarks about her during a segment on Bryt TV. The incident took place during a live broadcast of a “Kiss, Marry, Kill” game, which prompted widespread backlash from the public and advocacy groups.

When asked to choose between actress Vivian Jill and singer Cina Soul, Big Akwes stated he would “marry Vivian Jill” but shockingly added that he would “kill Cina Soul.” He escalated his comments with graphic and violent imagery, claiming he would use a “magic mirror” to summon her, stab her, and then drink her blood. The nature of these remarks sparked outrage among viewers, who condemned his statements as dangerous and unacceptable.

On July 1, 2025, Cina Soul, whose real name is Christie Quincyna Quarcoopome, responded publicly via social media, expressing her fear and concern over the threats. She tagged the Ghana Police Service and the Minister of Communications in her post, stating:

“I’m deeply unsettled by this. I initially chose not to respond to earlier comments because I do not wish to be associated with this individual, but at this point, I feel genuinely threatened. It is critical that we take a firm stance against this kind of dangerous rhetoric being broadcast on our TV and radio platforms. We must not normalize hate.”

The incident has reignited calls for greater accountability in media and the need for stricter regulations to prevent the promotion of harmful content on national platforms.

In response to the backlash, Bryt TV brought Big Akwes back on air to clarify his comments. In his apology, he said:

“This was meant purely for entertainment. I never intended to harm her. I even heard her mother was scared, and for that, I am truly sorry. Mummy, please don’t let this weigh on your heart. If my words caused fear or panic for Cina Soul, her family, or anyone close to her, that was never my intention. I sincerely apologize.”

Bryt TV also issued a public statement alongside the video of his apology, saying:

“In light of public reaction to a recent segment featuring Kumawood actor Big Akwes, we have taken steps to address the sentiments expressed, in line with our values as a media platform. We extend our sincere apologies to our audience and to Cina Soul for any unintended offense caused during the ‘Kiss, Marry, Kill’ segment. We remain committed to upholding respect and responsibility in our content.”

This incident has reignited discussions around responsible broadcasting and the necessity for greater accountability in entertainment media.
